Blade Tungsten

The Good Of Titanium And Tungsten Jewelry by Christopher Thomson
Titanium and tungsten jewelry are considered to be new in terms materials being used in wedding rings. This is because jewelers would normally use metals which are known for their high value, such as gold and platinum. Unlike gold and platinum, which were used for several highly valued applications such as in coins and bullions, titanium and tungsten were mainly used for applications usually involving heavy equipments.
Principal use of Titanium
Sometimes called the “space age metal”, titanium is known to have a low density. It’s a strong, lustrous, corrosion-resistant transition metal (even to sea water, aqua regia and chlorine) usually possessing a silver color. Often alloyed with other metals, including iron, aluminium, vanadium, and molybdenum, titanium is known to be used in aerospace (jet engines, missiles, and spacecraft), military, industrial process (chemicals and petro-chemicals, desalination plants, pulp, and paper), automotive, agri-food, medical prostheses, orthopedic implants, dental and endodontic instruments and files, dental implants, sporting goods, jewelry, mobile phones, and other applications.
One of the main reasons why titanium was used in jewelry is because of its silvery luster. In addition to this, jewelers also took notice of the material’s lightweight properties which could be beneficial for people, especially for women who prefer a lighter ring. Because despite of being light, titanium has been proven to provide the durability that gold and platinum lacks, which is why several jewelers regard it as the perfect ring for couples looking for a durable wedding band.
Principal use of Tungsten
Known for its high melting point (highest among many non-alloyed metals), tungsten is usually used in light bulb filaments. It is also used for rocket engine nozzles. The hardness and density of tungsten are applied in obtaining heavy metal alloys. A good example is High Speed steel, which may contain as much as 18% tungsten. Superalloys containing tungsten, such as Hastelloy and Stellite, are used in turbine blades and wear-resistant parts and coatings. Applications requiring its high density include heat sinks, weights, counterweights, ballast keels for yachts, tail ballast for commercial aircraft, and as ballast in race cars for NASCAR and Formula One.
In jewelry, tungsten jewelry has been known to possess the same density as those made of gold, making it the perfect alternative to gold and platinum. The only difference it has with gold and platinum is that tungsten jewelry is known to provide a more durable and scratch-resistant property. Another characteristic of tungsten jewelry is its hypoallergenic composition, which is perfect for people with sensitive skins.
